Technology at Salisbury

Salisbury school maintains a powerful and robust computer network infrastructure that can accommodate the technological needs of our curriculum. Students at the high school level have an impressive level of computer skills with a broad range of hardware and software programs. By graduation, most students understand how to utilize a computer with such productivity tools as Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and Outlook. Additionally, students learn how to navigate network resources, storage drives, and remote printers to prepare themselves for the college environment.

For many years the Salisbury Schools network has been a “PC Friendly” system. However, with the rapidly growing amount of MAC users on the campus, our Information Technology Department has been working diligently to support those users. Over two thirds of the student body brings a MAC to the school, with this in mind, A “Bring what you want” philosophy will be implemented beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. As technology advances rapidly and hardware and software developers continue to make products that become part of your lifestyle, we believe that students will be most comfortable with a system he is already familiar with. (A system that meets our minimum requirements of course!)

Salisbury has three primary goals for incorporating technology into our curriculum:

•         To arm students with 21st century skills as they prepare for college and life;
•         To enhance the in-classroom experience for all styles of learning; and
•         To engage the students with technology in a wide variety of exercises and projects.

To accomplish these goals, the academic program focuses on developing proficiency in the following skill areas:

•         e-mail and electronic communication
•         file management
•         web-based research and electronic media literacy
•         word processing
•         graphing and spreadsheet
•         presentation

In addition to these core areas, students have the option of furthering their knowledge within courses including, but not limited to:

•         digital film production
•         audio and video editing
•         music technology

What to bring!

To meet the demands of the academic program, we strongly recommend you own a notebook computer before arriving at the Salisbury School. Students may bring either a Mac or a PC that meet the minimum requirements listed below.

•         Minimum Requirements:
•         Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate
•         Mac OS 10.5 or higher
•         Processor: 64-bit
•         Memory: at least 2 GB
•         Hard Drive: at least 100 GB

.

Protecting your investment!

If your computer is not functioning, the school will provide you a loaner while you are having your machine repaired.

We highly recommend that your computer be protected with a comprehensive warranty which includes provisions for accidental damage.

The Salisbury School has arranged service agreements that can be purchased to provide virtually unlimited tech support for all of your software and hardware computer repairs. More times than not, students require service on their laptops that is NOT covered by a manufacturer’s warranty, or they need repairs due to ACCIDENTAL damage.

We recommend a policy from each of the following companies:
