Guitar Ensemble

The Guitar Ensemble meets once a week and focuses on Jazz and Rock.  The Guitar Ensemble has performed in Chapel and Saturday night Salisbury School coffee houses.

History of Jazz

This year long course takes an in-depth look at America's "Classical" music, starting with field hollers and work songs. The study looks at America from the eyes of the disenfranchised, which gives a different approach to Modern American History. Students will gain the knowledge for a lifelong appreciation of this powerful genre, considered by many to be America's greatest cultural achievement.

The History of Rock and Roll

This elective course is a survey of Rock and Roll starting with the Blues. As with Jazz, the Blues was vitally important to the creation of Rock and Roll. Students will survey Rhythm and Blues from the 1940s, the Doo Wop groups of the 1950s, and the iconic performers of the 1960s. The class will also focus on the important contribution of  black performers and their creation of the basic template of Rock and Roll as well as white performers and the influence of Country Music and Rock-A-Billy. It will follow the evolution of music to the present day.

Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir is one of the most vibrant and exciting groups on campus. The singers offer a mixture of bluesy, jazzy, and rhythmic sound to bring excitement and joy to the listener. The Gospel Choir performs in the School Chapel on occassion, on-campus and off-campus special events, churches, and other venues in the Northwest corner. The Gospel Choir has also travelled to New York City and Washington, D.C. for special performances. Please contact Director Michael Brown for bookings and additional information.

A Capella

The A capella choir is a newly formed group that offers a wide range of music such as:

A soulful rendition of Gladys Knight's "Midnight Train to Georgia"

"In the Still of the Night"

A moving celtic arrangement of "Salley Garden"

The A capella choir also creates and performs original compositions. The performance schedule is comparable to that of the Gospel Choir. Contact Director Michael Brown for bookings and additional information.
