Studio Art History

This course is designed for students to gain a basic grasp of the timeline of art history, while putting artistic skills from various eras into practice. In a discussion style setting, boys will look at major works of art from multiple influential periods of Art History. Boys will enhance their artistic vocabulary and learn how to express themselves verbally. In addition, visual expression will be stressed through multiple projects involving the creation of representative and abstract art using a variety of mediums, from charcoal to paint to clay. The study of Michelangelo will result in the study of form, light and shadow; while the study of the Mexican muralists will culminate in a large scale mural project. The goal of this course is to see the links between a thousand years of Art History, from Classical to Modern.
