Congratulations
to Rob Ruiz ’11! You wouldn’t know it by watching him but Rob has only
been wrestling for five years. And within that short period of time, he
has
left quite a mark on Salisbury wrestling. Rob’s honors include being
named Outstanding Wrestler of the Western New England League Tournament
in 2008, being named a Prep-School All-American Wrestler and placing
top 8 at the Prep Nationals in 2011 and making
history by being one of three, four-peat Western New England Champions
and the only in modern times at Salisbury School.
This
year Rob was named captain of Salisbury’s wrestling team. Coach Adam
Bunce commented that, “Rob always led by example and is one of the
hardest working wrestlers
I have ever met. He was constantly asking to increase the intensity of
practice and was always a great leader to the large number of young
wrestlers we had this year.” Rob also enjoyed being a captain, feeling
as though he was a part of his teammate’s success,
too.
Next
fall Rob will be attending Franklin and Marshall College and wrestling
at the Division I level while studying medicine. Coach Bunce says that,
“Many wrestlers
who are at Rob’s level have been wrestling since they were very young,
but Rob only picked up the sport in high school. And with his
determination and willingness to work hard, Rob has a very promising
collegiate career in front of him.” Rob even plans to wrestle
in the USA Open Wrestling Tournament and maybe one day wrestle for Team
USA in an Olympic event!
