ABOUT THE TEAM:
Salisbury's 2011-2012 wrestling team is excited about the season's prospects competing in the Western New England Independent School Wrestling Association. The team has a balanced mix of young and experienced wrestlers, seven sophomores, and six seniors with six first year wrestlers. A strong group of senior wrestlers will lead the team. Nick Merriam and Chris Hussey both have three years’ experience wrestling and look to have good years after both of their seasons were lost to injury last year. Dylan Brodie looks to place in the 170lb class while Larry Johnson will provide great leadership in the upper weight classes. Joining us this year from Missouri are two brothers Jake and Josh Roometua for a postgraduate year. Both very experienced wrestlers, Josh was a state champion last year while Jake placed third.
Juniors Hugh Bartlett, Alex Cole, Alex Mirza, and Joseph Yoon hope to have strong seasons. Both Hugh and Joseph bring experience to the mat and hope to compete at high level in the 160lb class this year. Alex Cole and Alex Mirza are first year wrestlers who will be attempting to crack the line up in the higher weight classes.
The largest group of wrestlers this year is again the sophomore class. Returning sophomores include Jack Shaw and Shawahl Abdur-Rahman. The other sophomores, who are also all first year wrestlers, are Denni Bui, Chris Martin, Sean Kim, Moto Nakajima, and Nick Cominos. All of the sophomores will be important contributors and all will be competing for a varsity spot in the lineup.
This year’s team is looking to develop our young athletic wrestlers, with the leadership of the experienced juniors and seniors to continue to be competitive in the Western New England Independent School Wrestling Association. The talent and experience of our seniors and postgraduates will help in the young wrestler’s development and should prove to make for an exciting and improved season.
