Recycling Instructions

The blue recycling receptacles that you see around campus called “ClearStreams”, the smaller, blue, recycling receptacles and the very large, blue totes near the dumpsters are all used to collect the following:

  • Plastic # 1 & 2

  • Glass, Tin and aluminum cans

  • Cardboard milk and juice cartons

  • All aseptic food containers

  • Aerosol Cans
  • No hazardous waste containers in this bin, even if they are empty!

If you need a recycling receptacle for your apartment, please contact Wayne Farrington at 435-5753.

All dorm rooms have the small, blue recycling receptacles. Students should bring a garbage can for their room.

In some dorms the boys empty their room recycling into the ClearStream and others empty them directly into the large totes. Housekeeping does empty the ClearStreams. It is very important that they do not become “contaminated” with other garbage. If one paper cup or piece of paper is found in the ClearStream then that bag goes into the garbage instead of the recycling!!

As far as paper and cardboard, we’ve been recycling on a limited basis.
We’re kicking off a more comprehensive program of paper recycling this year.
Students may use the green reusable grocery bags for paper recycling in their rooms.

Until the green paper recycling bins arrive, you can bring your personal paper and cardboard recycling directly to the maintenance building across the road. Someone will direct you to the collection bins.

In the paper/cardboard bin you can put:

  • Paper

  • Corrugated cardboard (Please break down boxes before recycling)

  • Junk mail

  • Magazines

  • Newspapers

  • Boxboard

  • Paperback books

  • Phonebooks

  • No carbon paper, metal backed paper, or wax paper should go in the paper bin!

We are working on expanding the program even more, as our local transfer station recycles just about everything.

Please feel free to contact Rita  Delgado with any questions.
