Those who have come together to build Salisbury School are uniquely qualified to lead what is one of the world’s leading schools. Meet Salisbury's leaders below.
Harlan Dodson was born and raised in Nashville, TN, where he attended Montgomery Bell Academy. From there, Harlan headed to the Northeast, matriculating to Williams College. Harlan graduated in 2011 with a degree in History and a concentration in Africa and the African Diaspora. Harlan also took numerous courses focusing on US, Latin American, Asian, and European history. At Williams, Harlan was a four year letter winner and three year starter on the basketball team that compiled a 93-21 record which included berths in the 2010 National Finals and 2011 Final Four. The Ephs also won NESCAC regular season titles in those years as well as a NESCAC Tournament title in 2010. Individually, Harlan was named a team captain for the 2010-2011 season as well as awarded the ‘Sinc’ Hart Citizenship Award, which recognizes the member of the Williams basketball program who contributes the most to the community as a whole.
Following his graduation from Williams, Harlan went to work at the New Hampton School. While there, Harlan taught IB Economics, US History, in addition to electives covering World War II, the Cold War, the Modern Middle East, and Modern China. For the 2014-2015 school year, he was given the O’Connor Excellence in Teaching Prize, a student voted award recognizing commitment to students and teaching. Outside of the classroom, Harlan served as an assistant on the Varsity A Basketball Team. In his four years, the Huskies eclipsed 20 wins in three different seasons, and advanced to the NEPSAC AAA finals in 2014. Harlan specialized in working with the Husky big men, and assisted in all aspects of the program. Harlan coached two NBA draft picks, as well as over 40 young men who went on to play collegiate basketball at schools such as Syracuse, Boston College, Michigan, Indiana, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Colorado, BYU, Dayton, Utah State, Northeastern, Penn, Princeton, and MIT.
Harlan is excited to join the Salisbury family and continue to grow his love of teaching and coaching young men. He loves the community and camaraderie that the school engenders, and is incredibly lucky to be able to work with such inspiring colleagues and young men.
