Gottsegen Paces Runners Past T-P; Avon Victorious
Jack Gottsegen continued to round into form on Saturday afternoon, finishing 1st for the Knights and 3rd overall as Salisbury defeated host Trinity-Pawling, 23-37. Avon Old Farms won both of its match-ups in the double-dual meet, 21-37 over Salisbury and 19-40 over T-P.
Last fall’s top runner as a third former, Gottsegen finished the course in a time of 20:12, 29 seconds behind Grande of T-P, who finished 2nd (19:43). Avon’s Moore captured 1st place with a winning time of 19:12.
Thomas Severo contributed the following commentary on the action: “Saturday’s meet was a scorcher, both on the course and the scoreboard, as the Knights of Salisbury took down the Trinity-Pawling Pride for the first time in many years and fell to the rival Winged Beavers (yes, you read that right) of Avon Old Farms in an 80+ degree, 5K contest in Pawling, New York. Behind Gottsegen were ‘Thunder from Down Under’ James Mitchell in 6th place overall (21:09); the tenacious trio of Joe ‘Broccoli’ Raab (11th, 21:45), Myles ‘Crimson’ Knight (12, 22:03), and Ford ‘Kissin’ ’ Cousin (13th, 22:05). The day also marked the first official race for many Salisbury Knights who did not run last week at Hotchkiss.”
The Knights prepare this week for next Saturday’s 3:30pm race at Westminster.
