Salisbury School 2024-2025 Varsity Wrestling Team

Depth Across Weight Classes Positions Salisbury Wrestling for a Strong 2025-2026 Season

Eight hours of practice for 24 minutes of match time—that’s the exchange rate for members of Salisbury’s talented varsity wrestling team.

Led by Head Coach Adam Bunce, who enters his 16th season at the helm, and Assistant Coach Adam Mayer, the athletes in this demanding sport are among the hardest workers on campus. Their versatile practice schedule includes dynamic workouts, focused drills on specific moves, and muscle memory training. Strenuous conditioning sessions take place both inside and outside the wrestling room as well.

A year removed from a stellar campaign that saw Dominic Valcin ‘25 reach the national tournament and Harry Jenrich ‘25 place at New Englands, Salisbury Wrestling aims to match that production with an experienced group of upperclassmen and energetic younger athletes. With a deep roster that Coach Bunce expects to fill out 12 of the 14 weight classes, the 2025–2026 squad is primed for success.

Starting at the top, heavyweights Cooper Long ‘26 and Istvan Szecsei ‘26 return to the team and will be vying for the heaviest varsity spot on match days. The two – who both excelled on the football field this fall – are more than skilled enough to compete against some of the best talents in New England. The reps they’ll get against one another bode well for the season ahead. Right below them, there’s another battle for the starting role, this time between returning senior Nick Feret ‘26 and newcomer Cooper Bunce ‘29. The veteran and the rookie will be competing in the 215-pound weight class.

On the lighter side, Edmund Wang ‘27 is expected to hold down the fort in the 130s. Vincent Valcin ‘28, meanwhile, looks to build on a strong inaugural season last winter and make some noise in the 144-pound class. Coach Bunce is particularly excited about the depth in the 150s, which should create healthy internal challenges during practice. A little above that will be Student Body President and multi-sport athlete Austin Moore ‘26, who will anchor the 165-pound class.

Other returners – Long Ngo ‘26, Hans Ruiz ‘26, Albert Wu ‘27, and Wyatt Orthwein ‘28 – should all be valuable contributors on the mat this season. First-years to watch include Matt Niedzialek ‘28, a fourth former Coach Bunce has enjoyed watching in early sessions, and Jo Kaijima ‘27, who arrives with previous wrestling experience. Gavin Leavy ‘26 also joins the team as a four-year student with a strong understanding of the program’s culture. Additional new faces include Alex Agneessens ‘28, Owen Warder ‘29, Ryder LaSusa ‘29, and Don Jacobs ‘29.

Despite losing several major contributors last season, Coach Bunce has full faith that his wrestlers – both seasoned and fresh – will step onto the mat this winter ready to work. Win or lose, effort is guaranteed.
