Knights capture silver at NEPSAC Class C Championships
Salisbury brought some hardware back from the NEPSAC Class C Championships at Catamount Mountain on Wednesday, February 25. Led by team captain Spencer Mandy '26, who finished third in Slalom and fifth in GS, the Knights placed second overall in the field of 16 Class C schools.
Mandy's bronze in Slalom came from a first run time of 37.47, followed by a 38.85 on his second. He followed it up with runs of 27.81 and 27.91 in GS, firmly putting his team in the championship picture.
Winning a team event, however, requires a multi-person effort. Salisbury delivered that on Wednesday—and then some.
In Slalom, Alex Kim '26 placed 15th overall with runs of 41.54 and 41.42. Trailing him was Tate Sink '28, who earned 19th thanks to times of 42.52 and 42.29. Those three combined placements gave Salisbury 37 points—second only to Berwick Academy (35) in the event.
Also notable, Adler Freed '28 finished right behind Sink in 20th. While the fourth former's placement didn't contribute to Salisbury's total, it did affect the scores of opposing schools.
In GS, Sink trailed Mandy with a combined time of 1:00.44—good enough for 22nd overall. Kim earned 35th overall with times of 28.56 and 34.37. That combined total of 62 was all the Knights needed to secure the silver, giving them a team score of 99—narrowly edging Hopkins Academy, which scored 101.
Dublin School earned the gold with a score of 90.
The result puts a nice bow on a strong season for Head Coach Josh Weinstein '11 and his team. Plenty to be proud of.
Knights race to 11th-place finish at Williams Championship
Salisbury closed out the BSL season on Wednesday, February 18, at Ski Sundown in challenging conditions. Warm air mixed with light rain made for a particularly difficult day on the slopes — but Head Coach Josh Weinstein '11’s team persevered.
Spencer Mandy '26 paced the Knights, earning 11th overall in a field of over 100 skiers with a combined time of 74.86 seconds. Behind him was Alex Kim '26, whose 82.08 earned him 31st place. Adler Freed '28 trailed the two sixth formers, finishing 41st in 85.99 seconds. Fifth former Nick Root secured a sub-100-second time, finishing in 99.85 ticks. That time gave him 69th overall. Arthur Stevens was less than two seconds behind Root, finishing 73rd with a time of 101.72.
The result gave Salisbury an 11th-place finish in a competitive field of 16 schools. Next up for the Knights is the NEPSAC Championship on Wednesday, February 25, at Catamount Mountain. The start time is 10 a.m.
Knights place 11th at BSL GS Championship, narrowly miss out on top-10 finish
Class C Salisbury hit the slopes at Ski Sundown yesterday for the Brigham Ski League GS Championship. With the sun shining on the aptly named mountain, the Knights raced to an 11th-place finish as a team against Class A and B programs and came up two points short of a top-10 finish.
Team Captain Spencer Mandy ’26 raced as the No. 1 seed for Salisbury, and rightfully so, as the sixth former finished 18th overall with a two-run combined time of 72.72. Behind him was Tate Sink ’28, whose 79.36 secured a 45th-place finish in a field of 100-plus racers.
Trailing Sink was sixth former Alex Kim ’26, who placed 50th thanks to a strong 79.9. Not far behind was Adler Freed ’28, who notched an 83.75 to earn 58th place. Shawn Guo ’27 rounded things out for the Knights with a time of 92.11 seconds, good enough for 78th.
The combined score of 509 gave Head Coach Josh Weinstein ’11’s team 11th place in a field of 16 schools, including a one-point edge over Class B’s Taft School. Loomis Chaffee, another Class B program, claimed 10th by the razor-thin margin of two points. In skiing, truly every millisecond counts.
Next up for the Knights is the David Rockwell GS Championship at Sundown on Wednesday, February 18. The start time is 2 p.m.
Knights place fifth at Ski Sundown
Salisbury visited Ski Sundown for Week 5 of the BSL season, earning fifth place in a field of eight schools.
Tate Sink ’28 paced the Knights with an eighth-place finish overall among 63 racers. His combined time was 71.34 seconds. Behind him was Adler Freed ’28, whose time of 72.61 gave him 10th. Next was Arthur Stevens ’27, who placed 32nd with a time of 95.15. Miras Zharas ’27 rounded things out for Salisbury skiers who completed two runs, finishing 35th with a time of 104.49.
The overall score of 271 for Salisbury gave them fifth on the day. They’ll hit the slopes again on Wednesday, February 11, for the BSL GS Championship.
Knights race hard at Catamount on chilly day
Down its top skier due to illness and missing three other varsity competitors, Salisbury took the slopes for Week 4 of the BSL season at Catamount Mountain Resort. With temperatures hovering in the upper teens, the brisk weather added no sense of comfort to the short-handed Knights.
Even so, Head Coach Josh Weinstein ’11’s team battled on the day, racing hard. Alex Kim ’26 placed 13th overall in a field of more than 60 racers with a combined time of 51.67 seconds. The sixth-former has had a strong season thus far, bringing consistency to the team each day.
Behind him was Adler Freed ’28, who completed his two runs in 53.26 seconds, giving him 21st place. Tate Sink ’28 wasn’t far behind Freed, as a 53.91 gave him 27th. Rounding things out for the Knights were Nick Root ’27 and Arthur Stevens ’27. Root’s time of 56.84 earned him 40th, and Stevens’ 1:00.33 gave him 52nd.
Coach Weinstein told his team after the race, “You all skied well for where you are in your development. Compare yourself to yourself, not others.” In a long season of ups and downs, these words remain ever true.
Next on the docket is Week 5 of the BSL season, scheduled for Wednesday, February 4.
Knights place seventh at Sundown, Mandy finishes 6th overall
Salisbury hit the slopes at Ski Sundown on Wednesday afternoon, racing well to a seventh-place finish as a team. The highlight of the day came from an individual performance, however, as Team Captain Spencer Mandy ’26 was magnificent in his season debut—finishing sixth overall in his two runs.
The sixth former’s first run time of 28.12 gave him eighth, and a 29.51 in run No. 2 was good enough for sixth. That combined time of 57.63 put him in the elite company of being sub-minute. Only five other competitors in the field of 76 accomplished the feat.
Behind Mandy was Alex Kim ’26, who placed a very respectable 18th overall with a combined time of 65.23. Next was Adler Freed ’28, whose two-run time of 67.38 earned 25th place, and Tate Sink ’28’s 70.18 gave him 29th. Nick Root ’27 rounded out the top five Knights with a solid 47th-place finish in 85.78 seconds.
The combined score of 270 placed Salisbury seventh in the team-wide field of 10. The Knights were only three points off sixth, however, and 16 from fifth. As Head Coach Josh Weinstein ’11 told his team after the race, “One step in front of the other. Slow progress every day. Not every run will be perfect. Take pride in what you’ve done well and strive to your best with what you have in the tank every day.”
Weinstein’s group will reset before Week 4 of the BSL season next Wednesday, January 28, when they head to Catamount for a 2:30 p.m. race.
Knights place 7th in first competition of the season
Salisbury took the slopes for the first time this season, competing in Week 2 of the Brigham Ski League against some of the best teams in New England. Head Coach Josh Weinstein ’11 called the race at Catamount Mountain Resort a “great start to the season.”
The Knights found production from countless skiers, highlighted by a 12th-place finish on Alex Kim ’26’s second run of the day. That topped his strong 19th-place finish on his first run.
Behind Kim, Tate Sink ’28 enjoyed a 24th-place finish on run No. 1 and a 27th-place finish on his second. Adler Freed ’28 saw significant improvements in his two trips down the mountain, finishing 39th on his first try and 29th on the second.
Shawn Guo ’27 had finishes of 46th and 48th, while Nick Root ’27 contributed a 45th-place finish on run No. 1. Miras Zharas ’27 finished 49th on his second run of the day, giving the Knights a total team score of 338.
Salisbury will look to build off the season opener when it heads to Ski Sundown on Wednesday, January 21, for Week 3 of the BSL season. Start time is 2:30 p.m.
