Dear Students and Families,
In light of the announcement from Headmaster Chandler that distance learning will continue for the remainder of the academic year, I write today to share information pertaining to collecting belongings from dorm rooms as well as summer storage. While we continue to closely monitor and review the current situation including the state-mandated travel restrictions, we have a tentative plan in place. This plan is subject to change, but currently it is as follows:
- Once the Governor of Connecticut revises or lifts the "Stay Safe, Stay Home" policy and we are permitted to allow families to return to campus, we will create a sign-up schedule. This statewide policy is currently in place until May 20, 2020.
- The sign-up process will be similar to the one we use for registering for Parent/Teacher conferences.
- Families will sign-up for a specific 90-minute window where they will be permitted on campus to retrieve items from their son's dorm room.
- This process will require that families are efficient and prepared, while allowing the School the opportunity to ensure proper sanitization.
- Once we have the details finalized, we will share the link through the Parent Portal for families to sign-up. Presently, we have identified May 21-May 29 as potential dates.
All athletic gear from the Student Locker Room in the Flood Athletic Center, as well as all E&R laundry present in Myers Gymnasium have been returned to the boys' dorm rooms.
We have been in contact with Dorm Room Movers (DRM) for the storage and shipping of student belongings at the conclusion of the school year. We will have more information regarding that process as well as pricing as we get closer to the dates for retrieving belongings.
Normally, at the conclusion of the academic year, students are expected to clean and vacuum their dorm rooms prior to departing campus. Given the extraordinary circumstances this spring, Salisbury will assist with these efforts. Any useful items (lamps, bedding, packaged food, etc.) that remain in the rooms after boys or DRM have packed or shipped belongings, will be donated to the Salisbury Swap Shop or local food bank. We will dispense of any items that are deemed to be in poor condition. Additionally, Salisbury reserves the right to make any decisions regarding belongings left behind once a room has been cleaned out.
We encourage boys to coordinate with their advisors to store large items such as couches on campus this summer.
We also understand that due to travel and other restrictions, some of our families will be unable to return to Salisbury to collect their belongings. There will be a process in place for those families to ensure that their items are shipped or stored. That process may take a little longer, but we will work closely with these families to ensure those rooms are cleaned out as well. More details about the timeline and pricing will follow.
We appreciate your ongoing patience and support as we work together through this unusual time. While still being finalized, I hope this information has been useful in answering questions and providing insight into the process moving forward. We will continue to share information and updates in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at awill@salisburyschool.org, or the Deans' Office at deansoffice@salisburyschool.org.
Sincerely,
Andrew Will
