Distance Learning Plan

Distance Learning

A message to our Knights from Dean of Academic Life Sarah Mulrooney:

I hope this finds you all healthy and maintaining a positive outlook during what has become a challenging time for our world and our local communities.

I can’t help but think back to our orientation days, when Mr. Wynne talked to us about how to be “culture keepers,” and how each of us as individuals would have a part to play in achieving that goal. I believe we’ve done a tremendous job with that this year. The excellent leadership of our students in the classrooms, on the athletic fields, in the Chapel, and in all the other spaces where we have gathered together as one community has been inspiring to us all. As we approach the third trimester, we are faced with a challenge we haven’t faced before. But I know that with commitment, flexibility, and passion, we’ll rise to that challenge.

The Distance Learning Plan that we have created outlines an approach to maintaining community and learning through instruction, assessment, and feedback using digital and online resources. Your teachers, tutors, and advisors have familiarized themselves with it and are ready to field any questions you might have. View our Distance Learning Plan

A few key points to highlight:

  • We know many of you did not bring your course texts home for the break. Don’t worry. Your teachers will adjust to meet your needs wherever you are.
  • Having a reliable, Internet-ready device with a camera and microphone will be key to keeping you stay connected. In some cases, your smart phone and earbuds will do the job, but there will be situations where a computer works best. Some of you may have left your school laptop in your dorm room. Please fill out this Essential Items Request Form if you need any essential items sent to you.
  • We know that you are spread out all over the world. The Distance Learning Plan accounts for that. We did our best to provide opportunities for connection whether you are several hours behind or ahead. We are committed to being as flexible and understanding as we can throughout this process.
  • Communication will be key! Make sure you are able to log into your school email, your Class Pages on the Student Portal, and Veracross. If you are unsure of your login info, contact the IT department via email at itdepartment@salisburyschool.org or by calling Mr. Raifstanger at (860) 435-5710.

We will miss being on the Hilltop with you all in the coming weeks. Please know that your teachers, coaches, advisors, tutors, and mentors are committed to keeping our culture strong. We will do this well because we’ll be doing it together, even from a distance.

With gratitude and hope,

Ms. M
