Fall Family Weekend

The Hilltop was host to over 400 guests last week as we enjoyed another jam-packed, foliage-full, Fall Family Weekend!

Our International Families arrived on Thursday evening to reconnect with their sons and enjoy an incredible dinner in the Class of 1998 Room. On Friday, parents and caregivers arrived in droves, smiles beaming underneath raincoats and umbrellas, ready to hug their sons and experience classes and conferences with them. Smiles turned into "Wows" as the Salisbury Experience came to life for all.

We were honored to host Max Stossel, Youth & Education Advisor for the Center for Humane Technology and founder of SocialAwakening.org as our Family Education Speaker. Max spoke in sessions with our boys and with our families about the specific ways technology is designed to be addictive and distracting. He suggested tools to help combat these designs, and led a much-needed discussion among peers about the impact of phones and social media.

That evening, we enjoyed Form Family Receptions, and a very special dinner for our Sixth Form Families in celebration of their final year on the Hilltop, and of the Sixth Form Gift of faculty housing, unveiled by Committee Co-Chairs Matthew Barzun and Harriett Marshall.

Saturday morning was invigorating for some of our more brazen parents who rose to the challenge of a Parent Polar Plunge - a dive into the lake at 6:30 a.m.! Others enjoyed gathering in the Global Classroom with a cup of coffee to discuss the definitive book on the rise of “toxic achievement culture” overtaking our kids' and parents' lives, and a new framework for fighting back: Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic - And What We Can Do About It, by Jennifer Breheny Wallace.

Fall Convocation was tremendous and recognized the academic contributions of our students in the spring of 2023. Head of School Will Webb spoke of his inspiring vision for Salisbury's continual success; always rooted in the School's rich history of tradition, and doing everything right for boys.

The weekend wrapped up with big wins on the field for Varsity Football and Varsity Soccer, cheered on as fans enjoyed sideline snacks served up from our food truck!

It was a fantastic weekend filled with joy for families as they reconnected with their students and the Hilltop!
