February Hilltop Happenings

February was a short, but busy, month on the Hilltop.

The month began with our Fifth Form College Symposium, which was well attended by our students and families, before they headed off campus for winter long weekend. For the boys that chose to stick around for break, many had the opportunity to go skiing in Stowe, VT for a few days.

Upon returning from break, our Knights spent their evenings participating in Rec Hoops Association games, paired up for a night of community service with Berkshire School for Breaking Bread Kitchen, and made meals for the Red Hot Chef competition, won by the Baconators (Athletic Department) for the second year in a row. Our Chinese Culture Club also prepared a special dinner for our community to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Weekend activities consisted of pond hockey, the One Love Foundation hockey game, Coffee House with Miss Hall's and Trinity Pawling schools, and our math team competed in the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament.

Four of our football players signed National Letters of Intent to play college ball, and our team visited a local daycare to share their love of the sport with our youngest fans.

Belin Lodge had a soft-opening at the start of the month, after extensive renovations this year. We anticipate a full opening in April, with all of the amenities our student center can offer.

In the history classroom, our boys shared their culmination of work over the trimester with Thucydides Day--an Ancient Greek city-state built entirely in Minecraft. Our English classes also shared Odyssey Day with the community to closeout the trimester.

Human rights and anti-corruption activist, as well as a New York Times best-selling author, John Prendergast spent time on the Hilltop to talk about his recent book Congo Stories: Battling Five Centuries of Exploitation and Greed.

Our alumni, parents, and friends partook in the first-ever Sarum Challenge; a week-long competition where 743 donors gave over $180,000 to support all areas of Salisbury School. The Class of 2011, Class of 1941, and parents in the Class of 2022 earned the top participation rates. We are so appreciative of the support received in the Sarum Challenge, which enables us to continue to offer myriad opportunities to all of our boys that live and learn on the Hilltop.

We proudly celebrate the accomplishments of Roon Soo Kim '20 as he won first place at the Rondo Young Artist Festival in New York City on February 2, which earned him a spot to perform at Carnegie Hall on March 1. We also commend the boys Varsity Hockey team for their number one seed in the NEPSIHA Elite 8 Tournament.

It was an active and engaging month to be a Knight; our boys are certainly ready for a well-deserved spring break!
