Knowing that art supplies could take weeks to arrive to the homes of our Knights, Art Faculty Danielle Mailer used inspiration from artist Andy Goldsworthy for her first class assignment for Distance Learning.

Goldsworthy illustrates how “found objects,” when put together in an interesting way, can bring about magical results. It was with this sensibility that Danielle gave the challenge to her students to create a word with materials found in their home environment. Naturally, they settled on the word SARUM, with the intention of boosting Salisbury community morale as the boys had learned that they would spend spring trimester working and learning from their homes.

The only rule the boys had to follow was that they had to fill each letter with a different set of objects. Some students went up to 10 feet tall and chose just the letter S. Others stayed small, using the tiniest of items found around their homes to make their designs. Every individual took the project seriously, arriving at the most interesting, original designs. The letters, imbued with every imaginable material, speaks of the resilient, creative, innovative and fun-loving spirit of our Crimson Knights.

Together, we've got this, and together, we are Sarum Strong.
