Hilltop Happenings

The Class of 2021 Graduates!
Kristina Miller

On Friday, June 4, Salisbury celebrated its 120th graduation on a beautiful day on the Hilltop. Family and friends of the Class of 2021 were beaming with pride as each member of the class climbed the Senior Steps to receive their diploma.

The weeklong celebration leading up to Graduation included a Spring Recital with performances by Classical Ensemble and Rock Band, the Cum Laude Society celebration on Monday evening, Brothers and BBQ community event on Tuesday evening, Awards Ceremony recognizing academic and extra-curricular achievements on Wednesday evening, Annual Sixth Form/Faculty Softball Game, Baccalaureate, our seniors last official service in the Chapel, and Knights of the Long Table dinner on Thursday evening, and culminating with the Graduation ceremony of the Class of 2021 on Friday morning.

Our sixth formers arrived excited and ready for commencement events to begin. The sounds of the bagpipes signaled the start of the Graduation ceremony. The Class of 2021 processed onto the Class of 2017 Quadrangle, led by the bag piper, and followed by faculty, where they then took their seats, together as a class, for the last time.

The ceremony began with a prayer from Reverend Kirk Hall '90, followed by a welcome from Headmaster Chisholm Chandler '11 (Hon.), P'17. Headmaster Chandler shared the following message with the graduates, "You've left your mark on Salisbury and this family. There are so many things we will remember long after the sun sets today. The Class that weathered the COVID-19 storm. The Class that embraced the culture of Sarum and Brotherhood as well as any that came before. The Class with perhaps the finest college matriculation list in the 120-history of the School. With meritorious character, endless empathy, and an ocean-full of joy, you came in late August and wrote a remarkable story. A story of fortitude and authenticity. Thank you for your love, your hard work, your humor, and your partnership. Each of you is a shining example of a Salisbury Gentleman. Trust that the light in the cupola that sits atop Main will shine brightly throughout your lives, and will lead you back to the Hilltop for years to come."

We then turned our attention to hear from School President Luke Nemsick '21, followed by a special introduction from Acting Head of School Bobby Wynne P'19 of Tracy Chandler, who introduced her husband, Headmaster Chandler, who then delivered the commencement address.

Headmaster Chandler and Acting Head of School Bobby Wynne announced and awarded the leadership and service awards, followed by Headmaster Chandler and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Richard Riegel '84 handing out diplomas to the Class of 2021.

Our graduates enjoyed their final moments on the Hilltop as the graduation ceremony closed, and before they drove off campus from their alma mater. Congratulations Class of 2021, you will be missed, but we look forward to seeing you again together as a class for your 5th Reunion on the Hilltop, if not sooner. Now, these Knights are Salisbury Gentlemen.
