Salisbury Picks Up First Road Win of Season
Salisbury traveled to Williston-Northampton on Saturday afternoon and brought back a 4-1 win to move to 2-0 for the season’s first week. Williston entered the game riding high after a 5-2 whipping of Avon Old Farms on Wednesday and fell to 1-1 after falling to the top-ranked Crimson Knights.
For the second straight game, the Knights’ opponent opened the scoring, and the Wildcats held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period. The home team protected that lead through the first half of the second frame, until Bobby Metz pocketed his first goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1. Chris Henn assisted on Metz’s equalizer, 8:08 into the period. Less than two minutes later, Matt Coronato scored what would prove to be the game-winner, beating Trevor Corsello at 10:14 with his second goal of the season. Jake Quillan and Clay Korpi earned assists on the play. Salisbury would score once more in the period for a 3-1 lead, as Nick Capone scored short-handed 1:13 before the second intermission off assists by Bayard Hall and Michael Fairfax.
Salisbury added one more, early in the final period, with Capone chalking up his second goal of the game at 2:05, assisted by Ilya Usau. Goalie Nick Haas stopped 26 shots to earn his first win of the season. Corsello finished with 25 saves in defeat.
