Gottsegen’s 2nd-Place Finish Leads Knights as BSL Opens Ski Season
On opening day for the Berkshire Ski League, fourth-former Peter Gottsegen finished 2nd overall to lead Salisbury to third-place in the team standings. Gottsegen’s combined time of 77.92 seconds was bettered only by Charlotte Turner of the Berkshire Girls, who won the event with a team-total of 86 points. Turner’s individual time was 76.69 seconds, 1.23 seconds ahead of Gottsegen. The Berkshire Boys finished second with 92 pts. Salisbury had 116 pts., 4th-place Forman 195, and 5th-place Trinity-Pawling 273.
Gottsegen placed 2nd and 4th in his two runs. Teammates Diego Narvaez (12th and 10th; 82.86 sec.), Otto Steinmetz (16th and 11th; 84.40), Jack Meagher (7th and 26th; 85.08), and Caleb Gilbert (21st and 14th; 85.20) also contributed to the Knights’ scoring.
“The conditions were very difficult today,” head coach Jonathan Gottsegen remarked, in characterizing the slopes at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington, MA, where Salisbury hosted the event and where it had rained for much of the day on Tuesday, “and the team did a good job overall.”
